After Orbera balloon placement we advice against drinking carbonated because it will expand stomach and cause extremely uncomfortable feeling.Alcoholic drinks would be ok, but I recommend minimal use since alcohol is an empty calorie (calories without any nutritional value). No beer or frizzy mix drinks.
Carbonated beverages are not recommended during the time you have the gastric balloon, as they cause occasional bloating and increase the amount of intra-stomach gas, which can lead to discomfort and pain. please note that many of these carbonated beverages are empty calories. my recommendation is to replace them with water or eliminate them from your diet. As for alcohol, this is a no no during the whole time you have the gastric balloon in place.
Good question. In general, carbonated beverages can cause bloating and fullness. That being said, it is reasonable to experiment. You may find that you can handle carbonated drinks in moderation. However, I would certainly avoid carbonated beverages while you are adjusting to the balloon the during the first 1-2 weeks. I would also avoid alcohol during this time as well. Once you have fully adjusted to the balloon, you can have alcohol in moderation. Keep in mind that alcohol and any sugared carbonated beverages will lead to extra caloric intake, so we would generally recommend keeping these to a minimum.
Hi,No I do not recommend either, water is best to drink. It could cause acid reflux and cause discomfort. Thank you for your question.
Thank you for your question. I would not recommend either for the first 4 weeks. In addition, neither would be in your diet plan. Independent of the possibility of potentially aggravating esophageal reflux disease, it can overdistend your stomach and make you sick. But you really need to be truth to the diet program and weight loss program you have gotten involved with and avoid these beverages
Hello and thank you for your question.Alcohol and carbonated beverages such as colas are associated with aggravating esophageal reflux. You may experience more heartburn than usual after the balloon is placed, even though you will probably be prescribed a medication by your doctor known as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) which is used to decrease acid production in the stomach. These beverages may promote "acid breakthrough" even though you make be taking a PPI.I hope this helps.Take care,Dr. Darrien Gaston, MD, FACP, FACG
Hello. I would not recommend carbonated beverages. First, because most of those are high in calories, or have sugar substitutes that would increase your appetite. Second, they will increase bloating and heartburn. Alcohol, like occasional red wine, would be ok, but I advise you to drink more water than alcohol :)
