There are some contraindications for placement of the Orbera Balloon such as any bariatric surgeries. Fundoplication is another surgical procedure which is contraindicated for Orbera Program.
Unfortunately, patients who had any type of stomach surgery such as bariatric, gastric sleeve and lap band system are not candidates for the Orbera Intragastric Balloon.
The Orbera cost will vary by practices, but the range would be from $6,500 to $8000 You may find a lower cost but make sure there are no additional or hidden cost on the lower end, since some practices will charge for follow ups visits. The only additional cost you may see in some cases will be pre-op medications which are usually covered by patients' insurance. With the one year program, which includes the Balloon, endoscopic procedures (placement and retrieval) ; all facilities fee including anesthesia; all follow up visits; nutritionist and a team which will motivate you to reach your weight loss goals is what you can expect and should be looking for. It is very important to meet your physician and have the confidence and trust to do this procedure! Hope this helps you!
Your calculated BMI (body mass index) is 34 which is in the recommended range (30-40 BMI). Results are variable with average weight loss close to 40 pounds in aggregated studies. Certainly there are patients that have had better and some with lesser results. In general the closer the patient follow diet recommendations and participates in an exercise program, the better the results. The balloon takes care of the cravings.
After Orbera balloon placement we advice against drinking carbonated because it will expand stomach and cause extremely uncomfortable feeling. Alcoholic drinks would be ok, but I recommend minimal use since alcohol is an empty calorie (calories without any nutritional value). No beer or frizzy mix drinks.
