Age 19/F : Doctor prescribed Minoxidil for 3 months?

Question

I am a 19 year old girl facing excessive hair loss. My vitamin D levels are extremely low (4.7) so I have started medication. Further, my dermatologist prescribed minoxidil 5% for 3 months along with nutrient supplement. I read on the internet that stopping minoxidil, after use, may cause excessive shedding. I am really apprehensive and scared about using it.

I would need to see your scalp, blood tests and know all your details to offer any solid advice on the use of minoxidil in your specific stuation. In general, if one has even the slightest hint of genetic hair loss as part of the reasons they are losing hair then yes hair loss will occur if one stops (use in this case would be ifelong). Even for a true telogen effluvium (hair shedding from some type of deficiency)... use of minoxidil is typically longer than three months. Please speak to your physician.

This is a good drug to stimulate hair growth. If new hair develops, it does become dependent upon the minoxidil so you can't stop it
