I am a 20yo male with shedding of approx. 500 scalp hairs per day since january. I have been on mincycline about a year (for acne) before hair loss started, I stopped it as soon as I noticed shedding. 4 months before the shedding started i was febrile for about a week and hence doubled my minocyline dosage. Hair loss is diffuse, eyebrows involved. No AGA in my family. My scalp is itchy and a trichologic exam. showed dandruff, but no seb. dermatitis acc. to the dermatologist. No regrowth yet.

Telogen effluvium can sometimes cause itching but so can 10-15 other things. It’s difficult to say without seeing your scalp and knowing more. If things don’t improve, see an expert to make sure you have the correct diagnosis and plan.

That is a substantial amount of hair loss and that would worry me. As a male 20 years old, you need to consider that genetic hair loss may be a contributing factor and discuss the use of finasteride with your doctor
