What are my options (and recommendations) for repairing my broken lateral incisor? (Photo)

Question

I have looked into everything from crowns to implants to fix my broken lateral incisor. I just want to know what the options are for this type of repair. I included a picture with hopes that someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you so much.

Before having the proper treatment you need an evaluation of the tooth with xray, and your bite (occlusion). Generally speaking you have few options such as tooth bonding, porcelain veneer, possible crown. All have different costs, and pros and cons.

Hello and thank you for your great question. Picture certainly helps, but an x-ray is essential in your case, because the crack is below the gum line. X-ray will show exact location of it. In case it fractured below bone level, extraction and implant would be recommended in most cases. If it broke above bone level AND there is enough healthy tooth structure, a crown certainly can be done with a good prognosis, assuming the nerve is not exposed. If it is, then root canal therapy would be needed as well.

Frist at all you need an x-ray to know how your tooth inside is and possible you will need a root canal, post and crown. But you don’t have to get extract.

Most likely you need a crown one that tooth. You would need xrays and an exam to determine if additional treatment, such as a root canal or post, would be necessary.

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your tooth. The treatment for a broken lateral depends on the extent of the decay, how far down its broken, if it has a fracture, the health of the pulp of the tooth etc. Until a thorough evaluation both clinically and radiographically is completed there is no answer. A diagnosis from your dentist is essential first to determine course of treatment and the treatment options available. Please follow up with your dentist to determine if the tooth is even restorable.

I think it’s wiser to try to repair this with view to an implant in future. Depends on the depth of the fracture but looks like a root canal and filling or crown would be best for now.
