A pixel laser can be used under the eyes. Laser brandnames can be dizzying to try to figure out, so it is helpful to know what kind of laser you are talking about. "pixel" usually refers to an Alma brand fractionated erbium 2940 nm laser. This is an ablative laser, meaning that it vaporizes tiny columns within the skin. There is not much heating of the skin with an erbium laser, which can be good or bad. The good is that it is a fast recovery, the bad is that the tightening effects are not as dramatic as a fractional CO2 laser which has more heating. We recently upgraded to a fractional CO2 laser in our office because I was not happy with the level of tightening I was seeing in my patients. With the CO2 laser I can perform a "heavy" treatment with about 5 days of downtime but requiring only one treatment, or a series of lower downtime treatments with additive resultss. That being said, the quality of the treatment depends highly on the skill of your doctor, so make sure to ask for some before and afters, understand what kind of laser they are using, and how long they have been using this particular laser. Best wishes!
Pixel laser works well for the fine lines of the eyelids. Althought the skin in this area is thin, the laser is precise in its depth of treatment and will not "burn up" the skin. Because the skin of the lower lid is delicate, it actually tends to heal faster than skin in other areas of the body. Most people find that more than one treatment is needed to give the best result.
It is normal to have crusting and flaking for 3 to 7 days after Pixel depending on the depth of penetration and the number of passes. The worse the "burn" now may lead to a better outcome in the future. BUT, if you are concerned, see your plastic surgeon. Make sure you go to a plastic...
It is not uncommon for laser patients to experience hyperemia after treatment. However, there is no evidence to date that specifies a causal link between lasers and rosacea. If you have pre-existing rosacea, this may be the cause of the current redness.
Fraxel was the first fractionated laser to come onto the market and has remained among the leaders in this technology. In my opion, Fraxel Re:pair, a CO2 fractionated laser and the Deep FX from Ultrapulse are the two leaders in this technology. The treatments will cost more but are well worth it...
