Is it safe to get a piercing after umbilical hernia repair?

Hi, i had an umbilicial hernia repair on my navel on Aug 13th of this year and i really want to get my belly button pierced asap. The area that was operated on doesn't hurt at all and looks and feels normal. Is it safe to be pierced?

Only a few number of surgeons perform simultaneous repair due to concerns with contamination and your altered metabolism at the time of delivery. Most prefer to allow your system to return to baseline unless this is an incarcerated or strangulated hernia. However, this is only my opinion.

You can certainly wait, but some surgeons would be willing to repair the umbilical hernia at the same time as the mini tuck. Either option is reasonable.

It is definitely possible to get an umbilical hernia repair performed during a mini abdominoplasty. Typically small umbilical hernias can be repaired with just some simple sutures. A “muscle repair” or diastasis recti repair can likely be performed as well, though it may not be as complete of ...

Removal of the mesh placed 16 years ago would be very difficult and bloody procedure with a risk of infection, in particular if you are pregnant. If it is not causing any problems it may be best to leave it in place through the pregnancy and address the problem if it arises. Good luck.
