Where can I get a preop medical clearance?

Question

My pcp refused to do it because she thinks I should not be having this type of surgery at my age. I am 23 years old weight 145 and height is 5'1. I'm healthy and my lab tests came back normal. She told me that she was not willing to do it because she thinks people who get cosmetic surgery have a "self image problem" and should see a psychiatrist rather than getting surgery. I've tried urgent clinics and they wont even do an ekg unless it's for chest pain or with a doctors referral. I need advice

You have already selected the plastic surgeon who will perform your BBL. You should be able to obtain a copy of your lab results to submit to him even though your PCP will not submit an approval for the cosmetic surgery. If not, suggest that you contact your plastic surgeon's office and ask his patient coordinator for a list of PCPs from whom your plastic surgeon receives pre-op approvals.  Perhaps one of them can review your lab results and provide an approval.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Look for a different primary care doctor under your insurance or sometimes in young patients like yourself, your OBGYN may be willing to since he/she is likely the only doctor that you see on a regular basis if you are healthy.
