How does genetics effect nasolabial folds? I am 23 years old with nasolabial folds.

I have looked through this forum for answers to why I have gotten them at such a young age, a lot of the answer states that it's probably due to genetics. Could you please explain this a little bit further, what does that mean?

Aging happens differently for each person.  Different factors affect how you age.  Some people have a lot of sun exposure, some people have hormone changes, some people smoke, and some people have a family history of deep nasal labial folds.  It might be that in your family it is common to have deeper lines at a young age.The good new is that there are many treatments to make these lines less noticeable.  Injectable fillers like Juvederm and Radiesse can fill the lines, and radio frequency skin tightening can help as well.  In our consultations we work with you to deliver a solution tailored to your needs, keeping the different aging factors in mind.I hope this information helps!  Good luck!

Nasolabial folds can be caused by a number of factors that includes your family genetics, physical anatomy, aging and skin care routine. Dermal fillers can be used to give improvement. I hope this helps.

Your facial anatomy is something that you were born with as a result of genetics from your parents.  Your particular concern about nasolabial folds is not an uncommon one.  I see many patients your age for similar concerns.  Filler is a great potential option for you, but I would recommend an in person consultation.

Genetics, anatomy, lifestyle and aging all play a role. A combination approach will give the most improvement. I recommend fillers for the folds themselves but also lifting around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. Genetics can play a role in how early on in life you develop nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles, in that the amount of proteins like collagen and elastin that your body naturally produces can be affected by your genes. That said, lifestyle factors can also have a significant impact on how soon lines and wrinkles form. Not smoking, wearing sunscreen and not eating too much sugar are all great lifestyle habits for your skin. 
If you’re bothered by the appearance of nasolabial folds, talk to an experienced cosmetic surgeon about dermal fillers, which can last up to 12 months. Hope this helps to clear things up a bit.
