There is no age limit for microneedling.Medical micro-needling has been proven to be an excellent treatment for acne scarring. There are scientific studies showing micro-needling can give as good or better results than fractionated laser treatments and at a fraction of the cost! Longer needle lengths create more tissue damage, swelling and bleeding which can adversely affect penetration of these serums. Also, rollers create a more erratic pattern of "tears" through the skin rather than the clean, more evenly distributed punctures seen with the motorized micro-needling machines.  We are finding the results are much better, and treatment is less uncomfortable, with shorter needle lengths.I have also found micro-needling to be much more effective when combined with the application of human growth factor serums at the time of the treatment. This treatment works by stimulating the skin to create more collagen and elastic fibers, resulting in thicker, healthier looking skin with greater improvement in the appearance of the acne scars.In my office, we use the ProCell Therapies system which combinesmotorized micro-needling with concentrated growth factor serums made from humanbone marrow stem cells and are seeing excellent results in the treatment ofacne scars.

I have extensive experience in managing post-acne scars and can honestly tell you that home kits like derma rollers may not "scratch" deeply enough to cause effective collagen formation. Deeper and wider scars like yours can be best diminished by lasers, chemical scars or microneedling. All three act by inducing collagen formation (which will improve your overall skin condition and make scars less visible) through controlled injury. The rule of thumb is the deeper the effect, the better the results.
