Rhinoplasty: 16 days post-op piggy nose. (Photos)

Question

I got a rhinoplasty 16 days ago. I did not want any changes from the front just a small bump to be removed. Today my tip is way too high and my nostrils are showing a lot more after surgery. My surgeon told me to put an injert on the tip so it would not fall after I smiled that it would not change my front view he says I should wait. Today I am really worried. Should I be? How much more should I expect for the tip to come down?

Yes, still considering your shape will improve it seems clear your dorsum is over resected and you developed or will develope saddle nose deformity, which requires a very good expert in revisions to be fixed.Additionally your tip is over rotated, need addressing too.You'll have to wait a few months, maybe 1 year, to full settlement and then undergo revision with a good specialist.If you wish better grounded opinion please do post or send privately well lit, focused and standard images: frontal, both lateral and both oblique views, also underneath the nostrils.

Dear MariL028,It is still very early in your healing process to tell how your nose will turn out. There is still a lot of swelling 16 days post op.

You are very early in your recovery period and the nose is expected to be quite swollen at this point.The majority of the swelling will resolve in 3-6 months, and will continue to resolve as your nose heals for up to 1-2 years. You have not reached your final shape as the nose will continue to heal and reduce in size for up to a year. Once it does reach its final shape you may be more pleased with the appearance of your nose.

Your up close photos reveal a less distracting and more feminine nasal profile, and your nostrils appear symmetrical on front view. You are still quite swollen this early after surgery, and your nasal tip may drop a few millimeters as you heal. From the pictures you've provided, I see no significant issues.  The swelling will begin to subside, and the tip will become more defined.  Be patient and keep your follow-up appointments.

thanks for a very common question. Please don't despair. This is not a "piggy nose". In fact it is not uncommon for the tip to slightly rotate more than you or the surgeon wants just from the surgery and the swelling that ensues. This slight over rotation will fall with time.  I'm sure your surgeon discussed with you that it may take close to 12 months to achieve your final result, and that just a couple of weeks out from surgery you are extremely early in the healing process. This can be difficult to wait this duration, but keep close follow up with your surgeon, be patient, and know that you will enjoy your new nasal appearance. Best wishes!

Hi thanks for your query,do not be upset it is very early to see the results of rhinoplasty.It takes at least  6 months to one year to see the results and tip swelling will be the last to resolve.IN the meantime do have periodic visits with your surgeon and get it addressed .

It is not uncommon to have an adverse response to your first look at your new nose. Typically you would expect to look like the same person, which you will. You are focusing on the nose and you are seeing changes which strike you as funny. You will always see a bit more of your nostrils in the front view.
