Invisalign glue causes pain when eating, what can I do about this?

I recently started my Invisalign process this past week. I have the glue on at least half a dozen on my top and bottom teeth, some of which are very sharp and pointy. When I'm eating meals this can be very painful as my inner lips are always rubbing against these sharp pieces of glue. What can I do about this?

I believe you are describing Invisalign attachments, which are teeth colored buttons used for moving your teeth during the course of your treatment. I know from experience they can be sharp at first, but as you eat and take your trays in and out, they will soften up. If discomfort continues I suggest calling your treating dentist and ask if they can smooth them out for you. Dental wax, often used with braces, is another possible solution.

You should ask your dentist to polish the attachments which should take the sharpness away.Also, dental wax can be placed onto the sharp areas which is common with metal braces.You may also become less sensitive to the new attachments as your lips and cheeks adjust.

The good news is that the composite that bonds the invisalign attachments to your teeth can be easily polished and adjusted so that you are comfortable. In the meantime, dental wax is readily available at most drug stores and should help until you get back to the dental office. Good Luck!
