I hav e a gap in btr tween my teeth and I have gone to cosmetic dentist and orthodontist. One told me I should get a cosmetic bonding and the orthodontist said I should get braces. The problem is I don't want to get braces and the Invisalign is too expensive and and the bonding eventually comes out. So I really need a cheap and fast way to get rid of my space. Thank you.
Answer: Compromise If you are only looking for a cheap and fast way to eliminate your spaces, and your smile and the level of the esthetic outcome is not important to you then direct composite bonding is the way to go. However if you desire a nice result, it depends on the expertise of your dentist who will guide you through the right steps to take. In addition to having spaces, you must take into account the length:width ratios and space distribution of your teeth. There are cosmetic principles that I abide by in my practice to help achieve the highest degree of esthetics. If your teeth are narrow, then you will not have a nice result with braces or Invisalign, even if the spaces are closed. In that case composite bonding is definitely appropriate. However if your teeth have the right size and shape, then braces or Invisalign would be appropriate. Bonding may close the spaces, but you will have very large looking teeth. On a side note, many dentists and orthodontists offer flexible financing options to make treatment more affordable. Hope this all helps, good luck!

Answer: Fixing the gap Bonding is the quickest and least expensive way. It does not last forever but done correctly, providing that you take good care of your teeth it can last for quite a long time. However, if the gap you have is large, any type of cosmetic work such as bonding or veneers would require work on many teeth instead of just 2 because if the space is not redistributed correctly you would have two very large front teeth, which may not be the look you desire.Invisalign is a great option as well and may be worth the initial investment as it will be more permanent in the long term.

Answer: Cheap permanent fix for gap between the front teeth Cheap and permanent can be an oxymoron. Bonding is cheap but it is not permanent because it chips, wears and discolors. Porcelain veneers and braces are permanent but not cheap. In my practice I offer a solution in between the two called "partial veneers". With partial veneers I remove only a small portion of the front to the teeth to help hold the portion that closes the gap. Traditional veneers cover the entire front of the teeth. I believe that partial veneers look just as good and last just as long while preserving most of the original tooth structure. A good resource to learn about this procedure is a book written by two Swiss authors - Terry and Galler called Restorative and Esthetic Dentistry.

Answer: Closing the gap between your two front teeth Hello Katie,As your orthodontist and your cosmetic dentist mentioned you do have several options. It's hard for us to tell you the perfect one since there are no photos of the gap nor X-Rays.You have three options:The first two have been mentioned to you, braces or a cosmetic bonding. The bonding, in the end, will not be permanent since it's a resin it will change colors and you will have to change it every 3 to 5 years.Your other option is getting a Dental Vacation, there are several places outside the USA that offer same (or even better) quality, all FDA approved materials but at considerably lower prices. In the end, it's your teeth and your smile, you should choose whatever makes you feel more comfortable since you're going to have them the rest of your life. Broaden your search and I'm sure you will find the solution that is best for you.
