Is it normal for gum tissue to grow over abutment 2 days later? (Photo)

Some peoples tissues grow very quickly. Bone around the implant is a good thing!  I would have taken an X-ray, but no big deal.

It is very common for the gums to grow over the "healing abutment"/"Healing cap or collar.  The drilling of the excess bone means that the bone had grown around the implant most likely.  It sounds like it was uncovered and the impression was taken on the same day.  It is often a good idea to let the gums heal then take the impression a week or two later.  I assume it is tender from the small surgical procedure to uncover the implant, this would be normal.  If the pain is mostly from the gums that is normal but I would have an X-ray taken to verify bone integrity around the implant.  Pain should be going away, it is not normal to still have the pain although every one is different.  My recommendation is to call the office for a post operative follow up and ask them if they would like to see you for an X-ray or something to make sure everything is okay.  It doesn't sound like the implant has failed or anything at this point.

Your gums growing over the healing abutment is normal.  Having extra bone around your implant is a good thing.  More bone surrounding the implant should make it more stable.  Nothing to worry about there.  Tenderness or discomfort in the tooth next to the implant after having the area worked on is normal.  If the pain or discomfort persist over a week then it should be investigated more.  An x-ray should be taken to check on the condition of the adjacent tooth to make sure it does not have any issues.
