What is the minimum duration of accutane and why it is suggested to avoid sun? Can a day out in sun will pose any problem?

Thank you for your question. Accutane (isotretinoin) dosing is based on an individual's weight, which is 1 mg per kilogram for a minimum of 4 months. A side effect of Accutane is photosensitivity, where the skin is more sensitive to the sun and can burn easily. I generally recommend my patients to wear sunscreen of at least SPF 40 and sun protection when outdoors for long periods of time.
