While there are different types of nasal splints, for the most part, the splints are thin plastic, or silicone, and are held in by a stitch through the nasal septum. To remove the splints, the stitch is cut, removed, and the splints are then pulled out one by one (you will have one on the right and one on the left). I'm sure that practices vary, but I do NOT numb the nose before I remove splints. The numbing medicine is a spray, and the nasal splints prevent the numbing medication from reaching the area that it needs to numb. Removal of the splints takes less than a minute. You can do it!
