Why do I have pain, swelling and bleeding after a permanent bridge has been put in?

It could be several different things. Any time a tooth is touched with a drill, you run the risk of a nerve not responding well and needing a root canal. It's possible one or both of the teeth are abscessing and will need root canals. It's possible that some cement was left around the margins of the bridge and is causing the gums to be inflamed and painful. You would need to go to the dentist and have the excess cement removed if that's the case. You could be allergic to the material the bridge is made of. If it has a metal base, sometimes people are allergic to the nickel in the metal and the gums react badly. The bridge would need to be removed and replaced with an all ceramic material if that's the case. Definitely speak with your dentist as soon as possible. Good luck!

Hi:My suggestion is to have the bite checked on the new bridge.  If the bite is off, it can cause a lot of the similar symptoms you are describing.Best,Dr. Maddahi
