Its not typical for Botox to cause prolonged numbness. I would sugggest a check up with your injector. Best wishes. Dr. Aldo
This can be typical after a Botox treatment, but I recommend following up with your injector. It takes 1-2 weeks for final results and this will gradually improve. If you're unhappy with your results, venus legacy treatments can soften results. Best, Dr. Emer
Great question and I undestand why this would concern you. Most providers including myself can tell you, in all sincerity, that based on our collective experience and knowledge of how Botox works there should NOT be any numbness. HOWEVER, I have had similar concerns from patients, especially those getting higer doses ( 6-8 units). The patients report on follow-up phone calls that their lips felt numb for week or so then felt normal. My best guess is that these patients are reporting this temporary "sense of numbness" because tiny lip muscles have lost their motor function and tone. Motor function is what Botox targets; Sensory funcion (numbness) is not targeted by Botox. Are your lips a little weaker when drinking thru straw or cup? Are you able to purse your lips with normal strength. Any minor drooling? This I imagine feels weird. I suspect that if you were examined for sensation with mild pin pricks in office (or do at home) there whould be no actual loss of sensitivity but nonetheless feels numb to patients for first week or so.Hope that helps and if not resolved by 2 weeks go for a follow-up visit. Good luck and let us know what happens and when it resolves.Gary Gesuald, MDChattanooga, Tennessee
It iis not coomon but numbness does occur after Botox injection so the best thing to do is to talk with your doctor and see if anything else may be going on
When upper lip line have been treated this weakens the muscle that purses the lip which can give a sensation of numbness. Typically, it is actually weakness that you are feeling and will self resolve as the Botox wears off in 2-4 months. If you find it uncomfortable you can reduce the dose to 2-4 units going forward, but you will need more frequent treatments. Also, it is always a good idea to follow up with the injector. Best of luck!
You typically should not get numb after a botox injection. If it persists check with your primary care Doctor.
I usually start with 2-4 units of Botox or an equivalent amount of Dysport when treating the upper lip lines. A lower dose is preferred because over weakening the muscle can lead to difficulty pronouncing certain words and even drinking out of a straw or cup. I recommend you followup with your injector with your concerns.
Botox works great for this. Insurance will pay for Botox treatment of chronic headaches, but not fibromyalgia. Fortunately, the Botox headache protocol includes the neck and shoulders. A physical medicine physician with experience with Botox in Chronic migraine headache and...
Hi Andy. There are several different possibilities. The first is that you are not getting enough units. If the number of units is to small, then the product does not last as long. If you are being sold the product by the "area" rather than by the "unit" this may be the case. It's also poss...
Botox for hemifacial spasm works well, but can cause significant side effects such as facial asymmetry if not properly performed. Make sure the physician has experience doing this. Usually a very small amount (20 units) is needed. Insurance should pay for this with prior authorization
