Will Botox work for bicep muscle spasms?

Question

I had surgery for ruptured bicep in January. they could not repair all the way back to shoulder and anchored it to pictorial muscle. now i have spasms through out the day and when i do any thing to flex bicep i get sharp pain and bicep stays flexed for a long period of time. muscle relaxers help a little with the spasms but not the pain or flexing when i use it. Botox has been recommended but worried about side effects and it will even work?

Hi, Botox has been approved by the FDA for several medical uses including upper limb spasticity. This is often seen in patients have had strokes and other brain injuries. It's is also used for treatment of blepharospasm which is twitching involving the muscles which close the eyes. Typically larger quantities of Botox are needed for larger muscles. You may get relief of pain and stiffness. Possibly the muscle could be weakened overall and this could be a undesired effect for some. I hope this helps answer you're question.

Theoretically, yes.  I would recommend a neurologist, neurosurgeon or orthopedist to do the procedure.

Botox will work for any muscle spasm but be sure you see a board certified neurosurgeon or neurologist to do the treatment probably with monitoring the placement
