Can Resin Composite be reversed? (Photo)

Sometimes, during the composite resin veneer procedure, the enamel underneath the resin composite is removed a bit (usually a half of a millimeter or less) to make space for the veneering composite resin so that it doesn't look bulky. Sometimes, rather than undergoing the longer process of orthodontic movement, there is some enamel selectively removed to better align the teeth before the composite resin is applied. Other times, when the teeth are well aligned, there needs no enamel removal whatsoever.Did the dentist who gave you the veneers get you numb before the procedure? If so, he was likely making sure you wouldn't be sensitive at all if he was removing some of the tooth structure. If not, you're most likely safe to have the composite resin removed by a dentist with no/minimal harm to the enamel, leaving the teeth looking like they originally did.

Composite filling materials are chemically bonded to the tooth with special adhesives and although it may be technically possible to remove them, most of the time, some enamel layer of the tooth will be touched while removing the filling. In general, we provide a higher aesthetics in anterior restorations with e-max laminates, not with materials that can be colored like composite fillings.
