Is it normal/acceptable to wait 6-8 weeks to have a post op appointment with my surgeon after breast reduction?

I was given a post op appointment 2 weeks after my surgery which I assumed would be with my surgeon, but I found out I am instead meeting with a nurse. I was told that I could set an appointment with my surgeon no less than 6 weeks after my surgery. My clinic only had one time slot open at the 6 week mark which did not work for me so I have to wait 8 weeks to see him. Is this an appropriate level of care?

Usually, patients should be seen by their surgeons a couple of times before the 2-month mark. This is because the first few weeks after surgery are the most sensitive times of the recovery process. However, every surgeon has his/her own protocols and your surgeon would be your best resource regarding post-op management.

Every doctor's office is a bit different. If you want to see the doctor, then I suggest you ask them to arrange it for you.  Good luck.

You will find that there is a lot of variation when it comes to plastic surgical practices.  In other words, there may be no "normal".   Having said that, personally, I think that it is important for patients to be seen by their plastic surgeon (for many reasons) within a few days of the procedure being performed.  In my practice, patients are seen 3-5 times (barring complications) within the first two months, after breast reduction surgery Best wishes.

Each surgeon has their preferences. I will normally see patients for this procedure within the first 3-4 days after the procedure. I am sure that if you are having a problem you would be seen before the amount of time you mentioned, but you need to be comfortable with your decision. See what the majority of surgeons write you.
