Great Question- I want to preface this by saying definitely ask your surgeon first. I know this sounds like a cop-out, however as the surgeon I would have information based on how your specific case went intraoperatively and better assess the risk vs benefit for you personally. That said, on average I would wait at least 6 weeks after surgery to allow the swelling to improve, blood supply to be well established, healing to be stable. Thank you for your question! We usually tell our patients to avoid the sun; however, if you have recent sun exposure we would still be able to treat but we would lower the energy by 20%. It is always good to wear SPF and avoid extended sun exposure. Good luck!
