Swollen cheek immediately after dental procedure: Dentist could not explain why.

Went to dentist yesterday to get a permanent filling and temporary crown after root canal procedure. The procedure was in the upper right side of my face. When the dentist is almost done with my procedure my cheek begins to swell pretty bad, especially on the bottom part of my face. Which is strange since the work was done on upper part of my face. Dentist could not explain why. Woke up today with same swelling. HELP!

Hi:You should go back to your dentist and have the crown adjusted.  Minor adjustment can be made even after the crown is cemented.Best,Dr. Maddahi

If your new crown is very translucent and your current tooth is darker than the teeth on either side, then the darkness will show through and appear to be darker.  I would recommend a crown that is porcelain fused to metal or a full zirconia crown which is naturally opaque.  good luck!

Hi:The abcess might complicate matters.  It’s best to have your dentist take an X-ray to evaluate the tooth prior to cementation.Best,Dr. Maddahi
