Can I use Retin-A for anti aging on my hands and neck?

Question

Is retin a effective for preventitive aging when used on the backs of the hands and on the neck? I Also which other areas of the skin besides the face, hands and neck wrinkle and think the quickest?

Thank you for your question. Just like on the face, topical retinoids like Retin-A are effective in treating the signs of skin aging and sun damage on the hands and neck. I also have many patients who treat their decollete as well. However, you should exercise caution when starting to use this product on the neck. The skin on the neck is very thin and can be more sensitive. As such, I would recommend applying a moisturizer to the neck before applying your topical retinoid to minimize potential irritation. Additionally, you should start using the product every other night (or every 3rd night) to see how your skin in this area responds to the product. If you are tolerating the product well, you can increase to every night. Good luck!

Thank you for the question.  I encourage my patients to use Retin-A on their hands and neck.  The neck is sensitive so you will have to be the judge on how often you use it on that area.  As for the hands and chest it will absolutely help with treatment of aging and sun spots.  Retin-A products are very effective when used properly according to your skin type.  Always consult with a skin specialist if you have questions about the right treatment plan for your skin. When using any Retin-A or Retinoid products it is imperative that you use a sunscreen daily in the areas you treat.  Best of luck to you.
