Why did I lose all the fat transferred to my buttocks and I am only 8 months post op? This is extremely disappointing. Is there an explanation? I think BBL on a small person like me does not have lasting results.

Answer: Do BBL results really last? Hi... thank you for the question... sorry for how you feel... Generally fat transfer, 30-40% of fat can get re-absorbet, but the rest remain for years... This depends on the technique, your recuperation and the quality of the fat tissue that was harvested.

Answer: Longevity of fat transfer (grafts) I am sorry to hear that your result have changed within 8 months. Usually about 50% of fat transferred (injected) in the buttocks will survive. Whatever is there 5-6 months after surgery should stay there for years. However, there are few thinks that you need to consider. Swelling, which is dominant in the period of 2-3 weeks after surgery will subside in 3 months and it will leave you with significant loss of initial volume, up to 50% in our experience. Second, it is very hard to estimate how much of fat volume is retained. If you have your before surgery photos you should compare them with current photos (try to make them similar for a good comparison) or ask your surgeon to show you before and after photos. Comparison of photos will give you some idea of how much improvement you have.In general, current volume 8 months after surgery should stay for years. If you want more augmentation, discuss your options with your plastic surgeon. Although we are learning about fat grafts every day and most of research in plastic surgery is about fat grafts survival, longevity, etc., we still know very little. Significant problem with fat grafting is their unpredictability. We as a plastic surgeons continue to search for the best methods of graft harvest, preparation, and injection in order to make our results more predictable and long lasting.
