Six adjustments on new cerec permanent crown - still have pain and bite way off.

Question

Had broken partial crown replaced on #14 2 months ago with full Cerec crown. It's had 6 adjustments so far. Bite still off, tooth hurts/aches, is briefly sensitive to hot and cold. Dentist says it doesn't need root canal (he tested). Now premolars top and bottom starting to hurt from hitting hard. He says I have a "tight bite" hence need for careful adjusting. I had no pain or bite problems before. I'm taking advil all day, chewing on other side. Please help!

This is definitely an issue of putting a puzzle back together. Either the new crown is not letting your partial be fully seated or inserted, which you would be able to tell pretty easily by feeling how closely it sits against your palate or gums. If you feel that it is seating all of the way, my next question would be how difficult is it to get in and out? If it is too  tight on your new crown it is going to make it very sore and potentially "pull" it into a position where it hits the opposing teeth in the wrong way. Your dentist should be evaluating your bite and marking and making adjustments with your partial in place. The last problem you could  be having is that there may not have been enough space or relief created for the "rest" to fully seat into a small divit made in the cerec crown called a "rest seat" and you are biting on this small area of your partial. Certainly be sure to try and determine if your bite is only "off" only when your partial is inserted or if is feels off all of the time. Regardless of whether this crown was made in the office or in an outside lab, there should have been a period of time during which you left your partial with your dentist to insure that the new crown was made to fit beneath it. This can be a complicated procedure, so much so that most insurance companies actually reimburse an additional fee for retrofitting a crown beneath an existing partial (and they don't pay for anything that hasn't been proven to be essential). This is going to be a situation where you'll need to insist that your dentist continue to look for the problem until it is found...or try another dentist; but it'd not going away until the interference is found.
