I see people are often put on caloric surpluses after surgery and I’m just generally worried about weight gain with being sedentary and eating a lot of carbs. If I do gain weight, how long do I have to wait before losing it again without killing some of the fat cells? I understand they shrink but I’m worried about losing them completely if that makes sense. I want to know if I’d be able to gain it back in the same areas. I can’t find any literature on this so I really appreciate any help
Answer: Weight Loss After BBL Thanks for your question. Weight loss, weight gain and exercise do affect BBL results. The fat transferred to your buttocks is affected in the same manner as when you normally lose weight or gain weight or exercise. Hope this helps. Please always consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Take care, Moises Salama MD, board certified plastic surgeon

Answer: Ans: How long after BBL can you lose weight without permanent damage? Hi @Milk and Roses. Thank you for your question. It's understandable to be concerned about weight gain and fat cell survival after a BBL. Fat cells transferred during the procedure are delicate and need time to establish a blood supply. Gaining a little weight post-op is often encouraged to help fat survival, but once the fat stabilizes—usually after 3-6 months—you can safely begin weight loss without risking permanent fat cell loss. If you gain weight, the fat cells in the treated areas will grow, but weight loss won’t eliminate them—it just shrinks them. However, rapid or excessive weight loss during the healing period could potentially impact your final results. After the initial 3-6 month stabilization window, gradual weight fluctuations shouldn't lead to major changes, and fat tends to distribute more evenly in the body. Always consult with your surgeon for tailored advice based on your progress and results.

Answer: Weight loss after BBl Thank you for your query. I request my patients to take carbohydrate rich diet after BBL for a couple of months only. If you lose some weight after a few months of surgery, the loss of volume in the buttocks is only in proportion to the rest of the body. The cells shrink and do not die. Please find an experienced board certified Plastic surgeon who can examine you and help you with all your concerns. All the best!

Answer: BBL AND FAT LOOS! Hello dear! Thank you very much for the question! If you are already gaining weight, the ideal is that, when trying to lose weight, you should not do it so drastically. You can lose weight gradually and can complement it with exercises aimed at increasing glutes. Good luck

Answer: Weight loss killing fat I’m not sure where you are getting your information but there is no evidence that weight loss causes a loss of graft survival. Typically graft survival is determined pretty soon after grafting. Outcomes are based on patient candidacy and surgeons technique or skill. Those are the only variables that really matter. I generally encourage all people to stay lean. Best, Mats Hagström MD
