I am having my lap band removed. The surgeon talked about placing mesh on my stomach, during the surgery, after band is removed, to prevent scar tissue (or something). Is this necessary? I don’t want a foreign object in my body. That is part of why I’m having the band removed!

Most likely you will gain back what you lost after removing the Lap-Band.That's is the case with all medical/ surgical products in general unless you maintain a rigorous diet and exercise program.Even though your band is never filled, it still creates some level of restriction. This is even more...
Definitely go and see a Bariatric Surgeon with experience in Lap-Band.Emptying the band would most likely resolve your issues, but it may cause regaining some of your weight. So start by avoiding "eating & drinking" 2-3 hours before going to bed. Also sleep on a pillow, or elevate your mattress...
The lap band surgery sometimes has complications, when the patient has a intense abdominal pain, we have to check by X rays or endoscopy to diagnose slippage or erosion, if you have a complication maybe you could need a lap band removal.
Remember than the lap band removal could be a same day...
