I am looking into getting a mastopexy + breast augmentation however I have Factor V (heterozygous). I have never had a clot, do not smoke, am on progestin only bc, am a healthy weight, and lead a healthy lifestyle. I am not currently on any blood thinners. My mother( also heterozygous) died of a blood clot but never took any precautions as she had been undiagnosed. Is surgery too risky for me or would blood thinners make this a safe possibility?

Answer: Surgery You need to discuss this with a hematologist first to see what would be recommended for you prior, during, and after surgery. You will need a medical clearance for surgery.

Answer: Factor V and breast augmentation The decision to perform breast augmentation in someone with Factor V (a blood clotting disorder) should be made on an individual basis. Patients with Factor V may have an increased risk of developing blood clots. It is crucial to assess the patient's medical history, consult with their hematologist, and consider appropriate preventive measures such as anticoagulant therapy during and after surgery. At Blue Ocean Plastic Surgery, we typically collaborate with the patient's medical team to ensure a safe surgical plan. It is advisable to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon and a hematologist prior to surgery. In my experience, patients with your condition can safely undergo cosmetic surgery, such as breast augmentation with mastopexy. Ultimately, a thorough evaluation by a board certified Plastic Surgeon will help determine the best personalized plan to reach your goals. I hope this helps.
