Upper half broken tooth what should I choose veneer or crown?

Hello Dr. I am 19 years old My upper front tooth is half broken since 5 years with no problem of sensitivity. Also don't have any infections as tested by doctor and one doctor suggested veneer and another suggested metal free crown so what should be best for the strong and permanent solution to my tooth? Plz suggest me

Hi:Both options can be strong if there is enough tooth structure.  However, if there is an existing fracture and you need a root canal as well, your best bet would be a crown.Best,Dr. Maddahi

Both are the same things, the only difference is how many tooth surfaces are involved. Crown covers all surfaces of the tooth on the other side veneers cover one or two sides. So veneer and metal-free crowns both are made up of the same material, the only difference is there is less tooth reduction is required in the case of veneer as compared to crown.

A photo  would be most helpful to allow for a correct assessment.  This would allow me to see amount of tooth lost, amount of tooth remaining, color of your tooth, and your bite.  A photo of an X-ray of your tooth would also allow assessment of the position of the nerve, as well as the length of the root and amount of bone atound it.  Since you did not provide a ny photos, I will do my best with the information you did provide.  If your remaining tooth is not discolored, and since you are only 19, I would recommend the veneer instead of a crown.  I prefer the veneer for you because it is much less invasive than a crown.  There is more chance of sensitivity with a crown because all of the enamel of your tooth will be removed.  If for some reason the veneer does not work out, you would still have the option of changing it to a crown later on.  You do not have this option if you decide to immediately proceed with a crown, you cannot go from a crown to a veneer.
