Is it okay to stay on Spironolactone long term?

I am a 37 year old female who suffers from hormonal acne and mild rosacea. I have used spironolactone along with Oracea and Acanya gel in the past for my acne and it worked very well. I went off of spironolactone due to a study done years ago on mice/rats where they developed breast and ovarian tumors due to the medication. Is this reason to stop the medication? Is it okay to stay on the medication long term? As I have gone off of the medicine, the acne has completely come back.

question. Most women who start on spironolactone for their acne will remain on
it for an extended period of time, with proper monitoring from your physician.
We recommend that you consult with a board-certified dermatologist who can
watch you, monitor you, and determine with you when it is appropriate to begin
this medicine, to determine how long it is best to stay on it, and determine
when it is appropriate to go back on it.
