I had erbium glass fractionated laser done 6 days ago. At the moment my face feels like sandpaper and is very obviously red/brown where the laser contacted my skin. How long till my face feels smooth and redness goes away? I work outside. I avoided the sun for the first 4 days but I had to return to work. I have a spf 50 broad sunscreen that I'm wearing (I waited the 5 days advised by my derm) makeup and a baseball cap. Will this be enough protection? I am worried considering I have olive skin.

Answer: Sandpaper feeling to skin after Fraxel takes up to 2-3 weeks to subside...
Numbing with topical lidocaine, oral medications like valium and vicodin/percocet, and injectable nerve blocks can all be used to limit pain during a laser procedure. Speak to your physician for best options. Best, Dr. Emer.
I developed a specific laser to use after Fraxel laser to help rejuvenate the skin and not have the skin clogged. You need to consult your treating physician who should have advised you on the proper products. Epigram is a prescription moisturizer that is excellent as well. Best, Dr. Green
A combination of fillers and lasers such as eMatrix which has a special eye piece for under eye wrinkles would be best. I also perform a great deal of Thermage to help produce new collagen and make eyes look younger. Best, Dr. Green
