Is it normal when getting a bridge or crown done to have some of the root or dentin exposed? (photos)

Sometimes after the tooth has been prepared for a crown (in this case a bridge), the gum may recede during the temporary phase. It can lead to cold sensitivity even sweets sometimes. I generally would prefer not to bury the edge of the crown under the gum as this can lead to gum inflammation and soreness. However if you have sensitivity you can try Sensodyne for sensitive teeth or MI paste which can be had from a dentist. The MI paste works quite well. As you say this is the second temporary bridge. It might be possible that the sensitivity is coming from saliva leakage under the temporary. You might want to check with your dentist. Good luck to you.

Hi:It is ok not to prepare the tooth all the way to the gum line in a non aesthetic area or where there is no sensitivity.  However, if the root exposure is causing sensitivity you might want to ask your dentist to extend the margin of the crown to cover the exposed root.Best,Dr. Maddahi
