I have been researching on microneedling and have come up with doctors, here on Realself, suggesting that they recommend holding off the use of retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene, and tazarotene) at least 3 to 5, some even say 7 days, after having a deep microneedling treatment. What is the reasoning behind this? Is it just because it is more irritating? Is it because it is toxic? Or is it something else like the retinoids will prevent the skin from healing properly etc.?

It can take several days for micro needling results to settle. I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist for skincare and after care recommendations. I always combine microneedling with prp and lasers to get the best outcomes. We do treatments every 3-6 weeks. Best, Dr. Emer
