I have been approved for bariatric surgery and was told a bypass would be best for me. However, I'm not sure I really want to lose as much weight as I probably would with that. I would be perfectly happy losing only 40-50 lbs, would something such as orbera be a better option for me? I am 34, 5'8 and 235 lbs. I had a tummy tuck 2 years ago and bbl 5 years ago. I'm hoping to do the least amount of damage to them as possible. Any advice would be appreciated

Answer: Hey!! Hey! Thank you for your question. First you have a BMI of 37.5 kg/m2 this is considered to be obesity class II. I think that your options are between gastric sleeve and gastric by pass. Sleeve gastrectomy surgery permanently removes 80 percent of your stomach. The surgeon then sews the rest of the stomach into a small pouch or sleeve. Gastric bypass, on the other hand, has a small stomach pouch created through bypassing most of the stomach and the first part of the small intestine. This small pouch is reconnected to the remaining small intestine. The area of the small intestine that is removed is the part that does most of the absorbing of some nutrients and calories, therefore making it effective in losing weight. Both surgeries are completed laparoscopically and require plenty of rest afterward. Taking care of yourself will help your body heal quicker and help with a smoother recovery process. Gastric bypass is more complicated than gastric sleeve surgery, so sometimes that can play a factor in what your recovery is like. Your doctor will go over the various procedures you’ll need to follow after surgery, including how you will need to restrict your activity and change your diet. Not following the surgery guidelines afterward could cause unnecessary complications like infection, pain and more. I do recommend that you have a consultation with a professional just to see your clinical history and see of the procedure is best for your particular case. Hope this was helpful.

Answer: Sleeve gastrectomy Hello, we could recommend sleeve gastrectomy surgery rather than gastric bypass. Intragastric balloon will have a limited effect and once it is removed you could gain weight again. According to your bmi it looks like gastric sleeve is the best option.
