Why is my chest and most of back darker than the rest of my body? (photo)

This started about a year ago. However, sometimes it lightens up, but idk how. I need to know what kind of skin condition this could be!

Hi there,It appears to be fungal but without a biopsy it can not be diagnosed.  I would urge you to see a Dermatologist for a proper diagnosis and go from there.Best of luck..
