Is using the MedioStar Next laser by Asclepion good for African American skin? (Photo)

Question

I just finished my sixth session with this particular laser and I wanted to know if it was ok for my skin type. I've home all of these sessions with no problems until this time. I think I got singed a little by the laser this time. I'm getting laser on my underarms and I fear I'm also getting hyper-pigmentation from the laser as well. What can I do to help the hyper-pigmentation as well as protect my skin from the laser?

Thank you for your question.  I am assuming you are using this laser for hair reduction.  If so I am assuming the 810 Diode handpiece and not the 755 Alex.  While typically the ideal and safest wavelength for type 5-6 skin is the 1064, the 810 is acceptable and should not cause hyper pigmentation or scarring.  If you are concerned please follow up with your board certified Dermatologist s office who treated you!  Regards, Dr. Matt Elias

I am not familiar with that laser. We use our Sciton 1064 Laser for hair reduction in darker skin individuals. It has not given us any hyper pigmentation problems. Perhaps you should seek out a Sciton owner in your locale for further treatments. We use Hydroquinone topically for patients who come in with pigment problems. It works well.
