How long until your teeth start moving after not using your retainers?

I lost my retainers a few days ago and i got my braces off a few months ago (3-4 months ago) and my parents do not want to buy me another one for being irresponsible, how long do i have?

I agree with everyone in this forumRetainers are designed to hold your teeth in place after the braces are removed. Everyone's teeth respond a little differently.Talk to your parents about this and tell them how important retainers are in order to maintain your teeth straightOnce they move the only way to move them back would be to wear braces again something that is much more expensive than a retainer

Please explain to your parents  the importance of wearing your retainers after all of your treatment to straighten your teeth. Explain to your parents that buying an extra set of retainers makes more sense than to have your teeth start to move back to where they were when you needed braces. Tell them their investment in a new set of retainers for you is worth it and it has only been a few days. Work out some deal with them to show that you are responsible and will not let this happen again! Also let them speak with your dentist and they will understand,maybe a little bit better, the necessity of retainers after any orthodontic work!  Good luck and bargain something with them!  Nice straight teeth are worth it!

Retainers are designed to hold your teeth in place after the braces are removed. Everyone's teeth respond a little differently. You may be lucky and your teeth may not move. However, once they do the only way to fix it is to have braces again and get a new retainer at the end of your second treatment. Talk to your parents about this and tell them how important retainers are in order to maintain your teeth straight. Always try to keep them in a safe place so it doesn't happen again!

40% of brace wearers, independent of type of appliance used, will tend to revert back slightly.  Most of this relapse, usually occurs within the first 2 weeks.  Therefore to protect yours, and your parent's investment, it is important hat you obtain a new set of retainers as quickly as possible.

Your teeth will start moving almost immediately when you lose your retainers. Perhaps you could work out a trade worh your parents for new retainers. Chores for retainers!?
