What would be the best approach to further remove scarring left from road rash on face? (Photo)

Two months ago, I was in a car accident that resulted in a small portion of skin being removed from my cheek due to road rash. Since the wound healed, I've been consistently using Mederma, but the scar no longer seems to be responding to it. There is also a small portion of the scar that has a different texture now (Similar to keloid skin). What would be the best approach to reducing the visibility of the scar even more and to help with the textural difference that has developed?

Good question and sorry to hear about your injury. I am a little confused as the picture seems to be a more fresh injury rather than scarring?  Generally speaking there are several things I recommend to my patients about scar care:--avoid sun exposure (which is difficult on the face other than hats, large sunglasses) and use a sunscreen with SPF 30+ every day, applied after moisturizer.  Sun on scars leads to poor healing and often pink or dark pigment formation--massage the scars several times daily--use a silicone based scar cream/gel; silicone should be the 1st ingredient listed (e.g. ScarGuard, Kelocote, Biocorneum)--laser treatments started early can often be helpful to improve the appearance of scarsPlease keep in mind that nothing actually can remove scars per se, as this is how your body heals itself.  The goal is to make the scars as imperceptible as possible. Good luck!
