I’m 26, since my late teens I had a small mole on the side tip of my nose, underneath was a cyst. I got it lasered off a few years ago and it healed beautifully and my nose was finally flat, a year later the cyst grew back

Recurrent “sebaceous cysts” on the nose after prior removal are usually not true new growths, but rather incomplete removal of the original cyst wall. When a cyst is treated with laser alone, it can flatten the surface and improve appearance, but if the underlying sac lining remains, it can slowly refill over time—which is likely what you’re experiencing a year later.

The nose, particularly the tip and sidewall, is a challenging area because the skin is thicker and sebaceous (oil-rich), making cysts more prone to recurrence if not fully excised. The fact that it initially healed flat is encouraging, as it suggests the lesion is still relatively well-defined and potentially amenable to a more definitive approach.

At this stage, the most effective treatment is complete surgical excision of the cyst capsule, rather than repeat laser alone. This is typically done through a very small, carefully placed incision to minimize scarring, especially important on the face. When the entire cyst wall is removed intact, recurrence rates are significantly lower. If the lesion is small, some dermatologic surgeons can use techniques that preserve cosmesis with excellent outcomes.

If there is any inflammation, redness, or tenderness, it may need to be addressed first before excision. Avoid squeezing or manipulating the area, as this can worsen inflammation and make removal more difficult.

In select cases, adjunctive treatments like intralesional corticosteroid injections can help calm inflammation, but they do not eliminate the cyst itself. Overall, definitive removal—not resurfacing—is the key to preventing recurrence.
