Why does my melasma look darker after a VI Precision Peel performed 2 weeks ago?

VI Peel Precision Plus is great for melasma, sun damage, brown spots and uneven pigment.  Some patients respond with a dramatic improvment in the first few weeks of their treatment, and for others it takes more time.  It is possible at the two-week mark to have temporary darkening of the melasma called "post inflammatory hyperpigmentation" which is transient.  A strict home skin care regimen should be followed with melanocyte inhibitors such as Lytera 2.0 by Skin Medica or Hydroquinone therapy by Dermastart (Clear Choice.)Make sure you are religiously using mineral based sunscreen like Elizabeth Arden Triple Protection PRO SPF 50 and staying away from sun, snow and heat.Hope this helps.  Good luck.

thank you for your question. with the VI Peel precision plus it is recommended to do a series of 3 peels for melasma. after one peel, melasma starts to lift and come closer to the surface. the closer to the surface it is, the darker it appears. this is why 3 peels are recommended- to continue the lifting of the melasma.
