Dental implants causing pain 2 years after surgery. Any suggestions?

Dental implants should NOT hurt. If there is pain, I recommend taking a CBCT scan and having it read by an oral radiologist. I am assuming the x-rays taken 6 months ago were 2D images.  My recommendation is to have a CBCT image taken.  This is a 3D image and can help determine the cause of the pain you are having.  I would contact your dentist and get a referral for a CBCT image and evaluation.

Its very rare that dental implants cause pain, especially 2 years after surgery. What is more common is that the crown portion of the implant has come loose from the bone level segment and is pinching soft tissue (your gums) and causing the pain. Another issue, that is also rare, that can cause pain is a fractured implant and as pointed out in the previous post a CBVT will be of benefit.  The best thing you can do is go see your dentist and get the area evaluated. Again it is very very rare that Implants cause pain so its best to get this area checked out to find out exactly whats going on.
