Will this sliding genioplasty plan create a longer, narrower, more V-shaped chin? (Photos)
I am considering a sliding genioplasty and would appreciate an independent opinion on the surgical plan I have been offered. My goal is a longer, more projected and narrower/feminine chin. From the front, I want a gradual taper from the lateral chin/jaw area toward a narrower, softly rounded V-shaped chin. I want to avoid a broad, square or flat-looking chin, or an abrupt “pinched” transition near the chin. I have an approximately 3 mm bony depression/resorption in the anterior chin with some bony asymmetry. I have also previously had chin implants, which made my chin look wider and visually shorter, so I do not want another implant. The proposed plan is a sliding genioplasty with approximately 5 mm vertical lengthening and 5–6 mm forward advancement. The surgeon says he can also contour the bone farther laterally along the sides and continue the contouring onto the mobile chin segment itself to create a more gradual taper. A narrower segment is possible, but he says this may create more visible transitions. Does this sound like an appropriate surgical plan for my anatomy and aesthetic goal? Are 5 mm down and 5–6 mm forward likely to create a clearly noticeable difference? Can this approach realistically create the narrower, gradually tapered frontal shape I am seeking rather than simply making my existing flat/broad chin longer/more projected? Would you change anything about the proposed plan? Kind reagrds
