I always read retinol must be stopped prior to laser hair removal. However if I use retinol on my face, do I need to stop it prior to laser treatments to other areas I’m NOT using retinol like my legs, bikini, and underarms? I assume this contraindication only applies to area you directly use retinol on, but I don’t want to assume.

Answer: Retinol and laser hair removal I do not have patients stop using Retinol prior to LHR treatments. The theory behind this is that Retinols remove the outer layer of skin called the stratum corneum leaving you skin more sensitive. With LHR we are not ablating or causing abrasion to the skin therefore there is no need to stop you Retinol . If your provider does ask you to hold your Retinol, it would only pertain to the are being treated.
