Answer: Fat Transfer - Truth vs Fiction Although not all fat survives initially, the part that does is more or less permenent and does not migrate down your legs. A person’s own fat may be used to improve the appearance of his or her body by moving it from an area of excess (or where it is less desired, such as the thighs, hips or abdomen) to an area that has less volume desired or has lost tissue volume due to aging, trauma, surgery, certain diseases, birth defects, or other causes.Ideal candidates are in good health, and have excess fat in some parts of the body and too little in other regions. Fat grafting is most often used for the face, breasts and buttocks. Typically, the transferred fat results in a significant increase in volume of the body site being treated.Fat for lipoinjection, also called fat transfer, is removed from unwanted areas of the body by a narrow blunt tip surgical instrument with side holes, called a cannula, through a small incision. The fat is then cleaned with sterile saline solution before being restored to the body. The fat is then injected into the desired area using either a smaller cannula or needle, or it may be placed directly through an incision. Since some of the fat that is transferred does not remain over time, your surgeon may inject more than is ultimately needed to achieve the desired end result. Over a few weeks, the amount of transferred fat will decrease. There is a limit of how much fat can be safely injected into one area. The amount of fat that remains over time is variable from patient to patient. For some patients, more fat or other fillers may need to be transferred in a subsequent surgery to maintain or supplement the desired results.Fat transfer procedures are performed using a local anesthetic, with or without IV sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure and recommendations of your surgeon.

Answer: How true is that when you get fat transfer to your butt and after 5 years, the fat goes away? Immediately after the BBL procedure, there is some fat loss, which is why plastic surgeons inject extra fat in anticipation of this loss. After that period of time (usually a couple of months), the fat that remains is permanent and will not go away.

Answer: How true is it that when you get fat transfer to your butt and after 5 years, the fat goes away? The fat that is transferred goes through a resorption phase that may result in 50% loss of fat. However, the fat that remains after this period of time is viable fat that will respond and fluctuate with weight loss and gain.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA

Answer: How true is that when you get fat transfer to your butt and after 5 years, the fat goes away? Hello dear!! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. After a BBL, about 70% of the transferred fat cells will survive, but this should last permanently, with exercise and a clean diet. Lifting, squats and lunges after a BBL will only help increase muscle bulk and definition and achieve a more projected buttocks. If you have any concerns, I suggest you follow up close with your plastic surgeon. Good luck :)

Answer: How true is that when you get fat transfer to your butt and after 5 years, the fat goes away? It is not true that after 5 years transferred fat goes away. ~40-50% of the fat transferred to the buttocks during a BBL is lost even with the best technique, but this is in the early post op period. The fat that survives the transfer after the early post op period will remain unless the patient loses weight or starts a more strenuous exercise program than they participated in prior to the fat transfer. Gravity does continue to take a toll on the body and we will continue to age with time. As part of the aging process with the effect of gravity everything will eventually sag. This will happen with or without a BBL. The fat transferred in a BBL does not "move into the legs" over time.
