5 days after crown lengthening surgery gum line looks line a shark fin. Is this normal? (photo)

Hello, I had a crown lengthening procedure for cosmetic reasons five days ago. Immediately after the procedure it was slightly swollen but the gumline did not look rounded it looks like a shark fin. I was concerned but the doctor said it was good. Five days later the shape is still the same and I am worried that this is now the permanent shape of my gumline. There is a picture attached and the stitches are still in place. As my gum heels will the shape change and be more rounded, is this normal?

For five days the area looks like it is healing fine.  Follow the post op instructions and this should heal fine.  If concerned, see your surgeon for peace of mind.

Hi LA_EM,
Crown lengthening involves removal/recontouring of the bone that holds the tooth in the jaw, but also dictates where the gum height will settle.
Bone healing can take up to 9 weeks to resolve in this area and the gum will continually change its appearance during this time. I would not be worried about the appearance at this stage as it is not necessarily representative of the final position of the gum on this tooth.
