Can I still go through with my breast reduction surgery if I need to take Vitamin E?

Taking Vitamin E is typically not a contraindication to performing breast reduction surgery. I would recommend to discuss your concerns with your plastic surgereon and primary care doctor who will be evaluating you prior to surgery.

You will need to ask the plastic surgeon who will be performing your procedures. Since vitamin E can be a mild blood thinner, we usually suggest patients stop it a week to two weeks before surgery to minimize bleeding and bruising. I recommend that my patients stop taking Vitamin E the week prior to surgery to prevent bleeding problems. Before and after surgery I recommend a diet high in protein to assist in healing.

There are no known therapeutic uses for vitamin E. Whatever benefits you are experiencing are likely placebo. As an aside, E comes in units, not milligrams; if you are taking 10 units of E, that is not enough to cancel surgery. Additionally, taking more than 100 units of E per day for more than a short period of time are at higher risk for heart attack and stroke.

you should be healthy prior to any elective procedure. Every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Certain supplements can interfere with surgery or with your healing. Vitamin E is a mild blood thinner so the concern is issues with bleeding. It may be recommended that certain supplements be stopped prior to surgery but can be started again shortly after. Your surgeon will need to review your supplements as well as the doses to determine if they can be continued or if they should be stopped.

Hello. Vitamin e does not affect your surgery and you don’t need to suspend the supplement for your breast reduction. It much better that your thyroid hormones are controlled and it it si with vitamin E tren you have to continue with that even for the surgery.
