Hi, I now have a hard lump in place of the filler. Is that a granuloma and will it go away? If, so how long will it take. It has been a week and it has not changed. Should I have a cortisone shot or wait awhile longer. Thank you

Answer: Hyaluronidase or Steroid Hi sdeen, Your doctor would want to know when you first had the filler because it may just be a collection of hardened filler which can be dissolved by several treatments of hyaluronidase. True granulomas from substances that naturally occur in the body (such as hyaluronic acid) are rare, but occasionally happen. Granulomas can be treated with steroids or excised. Your doctor can tell whether you'll need hyaluronidase or steroids. All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.
