How to heighten lip?

Question

After rhinoplasty, I want a lip lift to shorten a long upper lip, but I know it's risky, especially since I have a couple mms of upper tooth show. Before considering a lip lift, I want to try everything else that could possibly shorten my lip. If I wanted to heighten my upper lip with juvederm, is there a specific way that I should instruct the doctor on how to inject it? Should I consider lip implants for height, and if so which kind? Thank you for your question. You first should see a very experienced lip filler specialist.  Lips are not easy to do, and can be done wrong if not carefully planned out.  Only see a person with extensive experience with this type of lip augmentation. I hope this helps!

Good for you seeking alternative options before doing something permanent! There is no one best universal way to elevate the upper lip. Everyone's anatomy is different, but here is some of our current thinking: The Lip Lift operation can shorten the distance between your nose and upper lip and is typically performed when someone has a long upper lip with no dental show when they smile. A shorter upper lip is rejuvenating and also makes the upper lip appear a little more full, but all at the cost of a scar that can take a year to become invisible. My typical lip lift patients are in their 50s 60s or 70s. If you already have a gummy smile, I would NOT recommend a lip lift. (If your lip is long AND you have a gummy smile, you might have vertical maxillary excess which might require another type of procedure altogether.)Lip Fillers are a great, economical way to give the appearance of an elevated upper lip by virtue of adding lip volume. There is no specific instruction that your injector should follow, apart from making sure your vermillion border and philtral columns are injected. I find this is a great option for a woman in her 20s 30s and 40s. It needs to be repeated about every 6-8 months or so and there can be subtle variation from injection to injection, especially if you have different providers each time. It is done in the office and takes only a few minutes. Lip implants are fading from popularity simply because the current commercially available fillers are such a great option. But don't forget about fat injections, too. If you are going to the operating room for another procedure (liposuction, chin augmentation, breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, etc.) fat injections into your lips can be a nice "add on" to volumize and provide some elevation.
