Currently the manufacturer of Kybella, Allergan, has a directory of physicians that are appropriately certified and trained to inject Kybella.  

Doctors, like me, who are trained by Allergan and authorized to treat with Kybella have undergone a one day training course for safety.  The mechanics of the treatment are pretty straightforward.  The aesthetic judgement and surgical anatomy are not.  It it is a new and effective treatment, but no one has years of experience with it yet.  I recommend a plastic surgeon who has years of experience with the anatomy (to avoid complications) of that region, and years of experience with the aesthetic judgement of that region. I also had some experience with LipoDissolve, an earlier formulation delivered in a similar way.  

It is important to seek out a Board-Certified Plastic Purgeon well versed in anatomy and treatment of the face and neck.  A physician who is proficient in injectables and also familiar with the allergen portfolio of fillers and injectables will also be helpful as you seek out the best qualified provider. 

I recommend that patients look for an expert physician injector who is board-certified and specializes in facial aesthetic procedures. This applies not just to Kybella, but to other facial injectables as well, like Botox and fillers. A facial plastic surgeon is a good place to start, because they can discuss the risks and benefits of both the non-surgical and surgical options that are available.All the best,

Excellent question. Anyone who is injecting Kybella has to have gone through their training, so they will know their way around the product, but at first people will not have much experience. The best way to ensure you have a qualified trainer is to choose a surgeon who operates on faces and is therefore intimately familiar with the anatomy as well as someone who has good experience with other injectables. Ultimately, Kybella is much easier to administer than Botox or any filler, so if you would trust your injector to do either of these, you should trust them with Kybella.

You're right, Kybella is so new and you want to make sure your doctor has the experience and skill to inject it properly! Kybella was recently FDA approved in 2015 for treating submental fat, and I was a lead investigator for these studies. I currently train other physicians around the United States in properly injecting Kybella. Ask your injector if he or she has been certified in Kybella.
